How It Works
loadsheddingbd is a crowd-sourced power cut and load-shedding tracker for Bangladesh. Anyone can report that the electricity has gone (বিদ্যুৎ নেই) or come back for their post code, and everyone nearby can see what neighbours are reporting in real time. Planned shutdowns announced by the utilities are added to the same map automatically.
1. Search your post code or area
Type your 4-digit post code (such as 1205 or ১২০৫), a post office, thana or upazila (Mirpur, Kotwali), or a district (Gazipur, কুমিল্লা) into the search box – or tap the location button. Every post code has its own live page with the utility that most likely serves it (DPDC, DESCO, NESCO, WZPDCL, BPDB or Palli Bidyut), its hotline, the national complaint line 16999 and emergency numbers.
2. Report a power cut or restoration
Tap Power is out when the electricity goes and Power is back when it returns. Reports are anonymous: we don’t ask for your name, phone number or address. To keep the data clean, each device can report the same post code only once every few minutes.
3. Planned shutdowns on the map
Utilities publish notices such as “আগামী ২৮/১০/২০২৬ তারিখ সকাল ৯টা থেকে বিকাল ৫টা পর্যন্ত … এলাকায় বিদ্যুৎ সরবরাহ বন্ধ থাকবে” on their websites. Our system reads these notices several times a day, works out the date, hours and area (in Bangla or English), and pins them on the map – red for shutdowns happening now, amber for today and blue for the next seven days. Each pin links to the official notice. See the load-shedding schedule page for the full list and the sources.
4. How the status is calculated
When the most recent reports say the power is out, the post code shows Power cut reported once people on at least two different networks agree (one report shows Possible power cut). It stays open until someone reports Power is back, or until 24 hours pass with no new report. With no recent reports the page shows No recent reports, which does not prove the power is on.
5. Who fixes a power cut
Your distribution utility owns the lines and transformers in your area: DPDC (south Dhaka), DESCO (north Dhaka and Tongi), NESCO (towns of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions), WZPDCL (towns of Khulna and Barishal divisions and greater Faridpur), BPDB (towns of Chattogram, Cumilla, Mymensingh and Sylhet zones) and the Palli Bidyut Samitis of BREB (rural areas everywhere). Matching a post code to its utility is approximate – your electricity bill or prepaid meter card shows the right one. 16999 reaches every utility. This site does not notify utilities – always report the power cut to your utility too.
Safety first
Never touch a fallen or sagging wire, or water near it – treat every line as live and call 999 or your utility. In storms and floods stay away from poles and transformers. Never run a generator indoors. Switch off irons, heaters and pumps when the power goes so the supply is not overloaded when it returns.
